(Mitsui Mīke Tankō Miyahara Ana)

Mitsui Miike coal mine Miyahara pit

Mitsui Miike coal mine Miyahara pit is a mining site in Omuta city, Fukuoka prefecture. Miyahara pit started with the opening of the new shaft as the coal extraction of the Shiroura pit and the Miyaura pit reached the deep part and the efficiency of the drainage in the pit was deteriorated. After operation, it maintained a coal output of 40 - 500 thousand tons annually as a main pit serving also as a charcoal, entrance, drainage, personnel elevation and others. The first shaft was started in February 1888. Carried at depth of 141 m in March, 1897, and started firing on March 21, 1898. The second shaft was completed on 11th of Meiji 32 (1899), in the case of coal in October of Meiji 33 (1900), the facility was completed in November 1901. The first vertical shaft was mainly composed of lift charcoal, entrance air and drainage, and the second vertical shaft was functionally shared mainly by personnel ascent, exhaust, drainage, and charcoal. Both the 1st and 2nd shafts were equipped with two British made Debbie Pumps, one of the world's largest horsepower at the time. In the Meiji 41 (1908) year, in the Miike mine (Ohoura pit, Miyura pit, Manda pit, Miyahara pit) from the start of coal extraction in 1898, , Miyahara pit had the largest amount of coal output, 28% (431, 618 tons) of Miike coal mine as a whole, then Manda pit was 377,440 tons. . From the Meiji era throughout the Taisho era, we maintained an average of 400,000 tons of coal per year. Rationalization was promoted by the depression and the depression in the early Showa era, and the Miyahara pit also became a closed pit in Showa 6 (1931) year. Among the Mitsui Miike coal mine related remains, this Miyahara anti - second vertical anti - turret and the cargo compartment are designated as national designated important cultural assets along with Manda anti.
