猿島要塞 (Sashima Yōsai)

猿島(さるしま)は、神奈川県横須賀市猿島、東京湾に浮かぶ無人島。 猿島要塞は、幕末から第二次世界大戦前にかけて猿島に築かれた要塞。幕末には江戸幕府の台場が築造され、明治時代に入ると陸軍省・海軍省の所管となり、東京湾要塞の猿島砲台が築造された。実際に本施設が実戦に用いられたことはないが、島内の岩壁を掘って煉瓦で覆われた要塞跡は現在も残り、日本では数少ないフランドル積みが見られる。

Fortress of Sarashima

Sarushima (Saruzu) is a deserted island floating in Sarushima, Tokyo Bay, Yokosuka-shi, Kanagawa. Fort Sarushima is a fortress built in Sarushima from the end of the Edo period to the beginning of World War II. At the end of the Tokugawa period, the Odaiba of the Edo Shogunate was built, and when entering the Meiji era it became the jurisdiction of the Ministry of the Army Ministry and the Navy, and the Sarushima Battery of the Tokyo Bay Fortress was built. Although this facility has never actually been used in actual warfare, the fortress remains covered with bricks by digging the rock wall inside the island still remains, and few Flanders loadings are seen in Japan.
