(Amakusa Sumi Gyō Eboshi Ana)

Amakusa Coal Industry Woolen Horse Pit (Beef Hin Coal Mine)

Amakusa Coal Industry Wheat Pit (Beef Sea Coal Mine) was a submarine coal mine located in Amakusa city, Kumamoto Prefecture. In 1897 (Meiji 30), Amakusa Coal Industry Co., Ltd. opened. Although it had mined anthracite coal for naval vessels, it suffered from spring water and was forced to stop operating in 4 or 5 years. Stones and brick-made well heads still stick to the sea, but damage has progressed, and around 2005 the essential stones in the ceiling of the wellhead came off. It was designated as Beubo City Historic Site in 1992.
