城山銅山 (Shiroyama Dōzan)

城山銅山は、熊本県阿蘇郡西原村にあった銅山。 江戸時代に開山し、最盛期の大正時代には男女約200名が採掘に従事し本格化した。その一方で流出した鉱毒により金山川と本流である木山川は汚染され、下流域の水田では稲の被害が深刻化した。現在は閉山され、坑口跡などが残っている。
