(Atagoshita Shūraku)

Atagoita Village

There were at least 800 residents at the maximum, there were public baths etc. By 2010, all the residences are dismantled, only the firewall remains. An explanation board saying "Ashio Copper Mansion Company Homes Atago Shita" is set up and the following commentary is stated. Atago under the Edo era is Akakura Village Character Sakasaki (Saketsume) There were three farm households, but it was destroyed by Oyama fire caused by Matsuki in 1887 (Meiji) (1887), after that it was grassy . Since then, it was developed as a company residence of the Ashio Copper Mine, and in the same year the village of people coming from Tokyo was built in order to construct the Naito water purification plant by the mining prevention work, but it was removed when the construction was over. Then in the 1940s, 14 households of a smelter at the opposite bank (7 houses in 1 building) were built and called "Red Nagaya", and the company houses of Kuzo were transferred to this place in Taisho 10 (1921) And it increased through the transition. After the war it was called "Atago-shita" from the position at the foot of "Atago-yama", and in 1959 the number of 181 households 819 people was counted but gradually decreased due to rationalization of management, the Ashio Copper Mine At the time of closure (Showa 48), 377 people in 110 households, 127 people in 49 households when Ashio Smelting Co., Ltd. was established (April 1, 1988) and 24 people in 13 households as of 1997, It is becoming "a ruin of dreams of tsumono" to remember.
