(Reimbō Tawā)

Rainbow Tower (thousands)

Rainbow Tower is an observation tower located in Chuo Ward, Niigata City, Niigata Prefecture. On November 23, 1973 (Showa 48) he opened as a part of the commercial area "Shiseido". The height was 100 m, and at the time of construction it was a building with the highest height in the prefecture except for business towers and chimneys, and the observation facility boasted the highest height on the Japan Sea side as well. As part of the tower was damaged at the Great East Japan Great Earthquake of March 11, 2011, we suspended the business entirely in order to secure the safety of the user, investigated the damaged part and carried out seismic diagnosis. As a result, although there is no danger of collapse at both the tower and the observation platform, we concluded that "the possibility of slight movement on the foundation can not be denied" in the case of a very rare large earthquake. Niigata Koten abandoned business continuation as an observation facility and officially announced the closing of business on February 8, 2012 without restarting business. Maintenance was carried out even after the closing of the business and it was loved as a symbol of the city, but dismantling work began on August 27, 2018 (Heisei 30).
