(Azō Tōge)

Azo Pass

Azo Pass and its pass are abandoned roads in Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture. It corresponds to the old road of the current National Route 420 New Danto Tunnel. Based on the old road law of 1920 (Taisho 9), it was certified as the Aichi Prefectural Road Asuke Shinshiro Line at that time. Even after that, the Azo Pass road remained a cart road, and cars could not pass through the main pass until the old Danto tunnel was opened in 1967 (Showa 42). As a conspicuous remains, a masonry pier remains on the riverbank of Eelzawa, a stone that shows the cut-through of the Azo Pass and the village boundary.
