(Higashiyama Kyūsui Tō)

Higashiyama water supply tower

Higashiyama Water Supply Tower (Hisashiyama Ku Suito) is a water supply facility of the Nagoya City Water and Sewerage Bureau located in Tashiro-machi, Chikusa-ku, Nagoya-shi, Aichi Prefecture. Once the oldest water tower in Nagoya was called "Higashiyama water distribution tower", the height is 37.85 m. It is a water tower designed by Naruse Kaoru of the Nagoya City Waterworks Department (present · Nagoya city water supply and sewerage department), completed in March of 1930 (Showa 5 years) in the site of Higashiyama Dockyard. The water sent from the Nabeya Ueno Purification Plant was pumped up to the reservoir on the tower once, and was distributed to the hill of the Otoyama district using the pressure from the spontaneous flow. It was used as a water distribution tower until February 1973, but in 1979 (Showa 55) it became an emergency water supply facility for disaster. 300 m³ of water is always stored here. Although the top of the tower at the time of construction was flat, a steeple roof was attached at the time of renovation in 1983 (Showa 58 years). Although it is usually private, it is opened to the public on the spring equinox every year and on August 8 (Maruhachi day), and can enter the tower. In 1985 (1985), it was chosen as "the modern water service 100 selection of Ministry of Health and Welfare" and in 1991 (Heisei 3) it was selected as the 2nd Nagoya city cityscape important building. Although it is an active facility and not ruins, it is also a popular building for ruined fans.
