高山鉱山(西予市) (Takayama Kōzan)

高山鉱山は愛媛県西予市(旧・西予市明浜町)にあった鉱山。 石灰石が採掘された。 嘉永2年(1849)から採掘。明治5年には石炭を筑前若松港より購入して石灰焼の燃料とした。大正中期には第一次世界大戦後の不況や化学肥料の普及により肥料用石灰は一時不況となり工場数は減少。それでも昭和初期に最盛期を迎え、販路は遠くジャワ・北支・台湾・朝鮮にまで拡大された。第二次世界大戦中は燃料の石炭不足で石灰工場が休業状態に。敗戦直後の昭和20年9月には台風により南向き湾頭の石灰工場はほとんど破壊された。その後復興を果たすも昭和40年代に入ると近代化の遅れた高山地区の石灰工場は相次いで閉鎖される。昭和54年(1979)閉山。 海岸沿い、ふるさと創生館脇、あけはまオートキャンプ場きゃんぱ付近にコンクリート遺構が残る。 海岸沿いの遺構にはグラフィティが見られる。

Takayama Mine (Seiichi)
