新居鉱山 (Shinkyo Kōzan)

新居鉱山(にいこうざん)は愛媛県西条市にあった鉱山。加茂川の上流、川来須(かわぐるす)の対岸、扇山中腹に位置する。 銅・硫化鉄が採掘された。 元禄年間に、鉾石鉱山(ほこいしこうざん)として開坑。大正期に近代化、昭和8年から日本鉱業(株)により本格的に操業。昭和15年頃には盛況を呈し年間約4,000tを産したという。 当時の川来須には、酒屋や質屋、宿屋、簡易劇場などがあったという。鉱石は川来須まで索道で降ろされ、そこからは軌道を利用し船形まで運搬、西条港から大分県の日本鉱業佐賀関精錬所へ運ばれていた。 昭和27年閉山(昭和19年とも)。 山肌にズリ跡が残る他、石垣や鉱山設備などの遺構が散見される。
