(Moto Yasu Kōzan)

Kayasu mine

Mine baseball (Masuzasa) is a mine in Saijo city, Ehime prefecture. Copper was mined. From the Meiji era it was small but it was running. In 1943, the mining right shifted to Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd., and in 1952 (Showa 27) the monthly production exceeded 1,000 tons, at which time the ore's discharge has been converted from the cableway to the road. It is said that more than 500 people lived in 72 mining communities, one of the prefecture's mines. There was a Nakanozu Elementary School Kasei branch. After that it declined, closed in July of 1972 (Showa 47). It seems to approach from the Ehime side entrance of the old cold wind tunnel. In addition to the slippery trace, you can see residence foundation marks and mining equipment. Backnets and living equipments at Kanehasa branch remain. Also along the national highway, you can see the remains of the river crown relay station of the former imaginary cableway that carried ore to Kuroishi.
