(Chihara Kōzan)

Chihara mine

The Chihara mine was a mine located in Saijo city in Ehime prefecture (formerly Tanbara Town). Copper was mined. It already existed in the middle of the 18th century. It was modernized after Meiji 35 and mining and refining was done by the Nakae Industry until the early Showa era. Extensive smoke damage occurred due to the mountainous area, and the tempering process here was canceled in Taisho 3 years. In Taisho 8 years, a power plant dedicated to the Chihara mine has been completed in the Kurasawari Valley downstream. After the war restarted in 1943, continued operation as a Chihara mining, rested in 1943. There is a suspension bridge which collapsed near the map position, and a well head is left on the other side of the suspension bridge. There seems to be a small wellhead on the national highway side. The scrapped car that fell on the approach has been abandoned. There is Chihara Elementary School in the Chibaru Village that flourished as a mining community. It was integrated in Kurase primary school in 1972 and it was abolished. Currently it is used as Chihara Children's Playground, and the school building seems to be a place for agricultural tools. It also says that you can see the remains such as underdrains and exploratory traces along the way in Aoyogi valley.
