(Daitō Kōzan)

Daito Mine (Yunnan City)

Daito Mine (Daito Kozan) is a mine located in Daito-cho, Yunnan, Shimane Prefecture. Molybdenum ore, copper was mined. In 1914 (Taisho 3rd year), mining started with Tanizawa Kosuke's name. In 1929 (Showa 4) changed to name Taiyo Minerals Co., Ltd., and started mining in earnest in 1930 (Showa 5 years). Demand for molybdenum, which plays an important role in the manufacture of weapons during wartime, has increased, and around 1941 (1965), the Kita Japan Mining Co., Ltd. Daito refinery built a floating dump site under the auspices of the army. We started making operations. [5] After the war, the Kitanihon mining industry dissolved and the Daito mine also closed. It restarted in January 1952, but due to sluggish demand and dispute, it was closed in October of the same year. Since then, the demand for molybdenum for the peace industrial sector has been opened, demand has risen again, the temperature has overheated due to the Korean turbulence in 1955, and demand increased as a global strategic material, so Kiyohisu mine, Daito mine, Kamiya mine, Higashiyama mine Mines were resumed one after another. At its peak in Showa 35 - 36, the Daito mine became Japan 's largest molybdenum mining site supplying 66% of Japan' s total production. It closed down in 1985 (Showa 60 years) due to price competition due to the reduction of high-grade ore and liberalization of trade. There are four molybdenum mines in Daito town, namely the Kiyohisu mine, the Higashiyama mine, and the Kamiya (Myonaka) mine in addition to the Daito mine, currently only the Daito mine and the Higashiyama mine are seen. After closing, I moved to the ceramics business (Izumo Daito kiln) and is currently operated. The name "Daito mining front" remains at the bus stop at the prefectural road, and concrete-built buildings and mining orbit are seen on the slope. In addition, the remains of the waste ponds that existed in the selection area remained in the school garden of Daito junior high school. It is said that smelting here, packed in cans loaded on the truck and shipped.
