(Iwate Keibentetsudō)

Iwate Light Railway

Iwate Keitetsu Railway is a railway operator in Iwate Prefecture. It was operating a route that was later known as the JR East Kamaishi Line. In 1913 (Taisho 2), 12.7km between Hanamaki and Tsuchizawa was opened, and in 1914 (Taisho 3), the following year, Sennin Pass, Sennin Pass-Ohashi 3.6km, Tsuchizawa-Haruyama 3.2km, Tono-Senjin Pass 19.3km. , 5.8km between Haruyama and Iwanebashi, 10.6km between Masuzawa and Tono were opened, and in 1915 (Taisho 4) Kashiwagidaira-Masuzawa between 4.2km and Iwanebashi-Kashiwagidaira 9.5km. 1936 (Showa 11) It was nationalized on August 1st and became the National Railways Kamaishi Line. The main remains are the piers of the Miyamori River Bridge. Completed in November 1915 (Taisho 4). It is said that Kenji Miyazawa's "Galaxy Railway Night" was the motif of the three masonry (limestone sandstone masonry) bridge piers that were used during the Iwate Light Railroad era. Adjacent to the JR Kamaishi Line Miyamorigawa Bridge, commonly known as the "Megane Bridge". Besides, there is an abutment of the Iwate Light Rail Railway era next to the Kitakami River Bridge on the Kamaishi Line over the Kitakami River. It seems that it was replaced and abolished when the track width changed in 1943 (Showa 18). The old Masuzawa Tunnel is a brick tunnel completed in 1915 (Taisho 4). This seems to have been abolished when the track width was changed. The Datsube River Bridge is 99m long and has 6 arches. It used to be a steel plate girder bridge during the Iwate Light Railroad era, but in 1943 (Showa 18), the JNR wrapped the abutment, piers, and steel plate girder bridges as they were, and made them reinforced concrete. It is designated as a civil engineering heritage recommended by the Japan Society of Civil Engineers.
