草本金山は大分県中津市の草本・田良川地区にあった金山。 1642年、中津藩(小笠原長次公)が採掘を開始。その後事業は天領直轄、商人、大資本家へと変遷。廃坑と再開を何度も繰り返す。最盛期の昭和十年代には「旭金山」「山国旭金山」と呼ばれ、国内有数の採金量を誇り五百人以上の労働者が働いていた。住居の他、映画館やテニスコート、公衆浴場などもあった。太平洋戦争の影響で廃坑。戦後二年間の発掘を経て1953(昭和28)年に閉山した。 廃屋、精錬所跡などが残る。
