(Beppu Kōzan)

Approximately 200 people worked in the peak period, but suffered from the fumarolic spasm near 400 m underground, stopped operating in September, May. Kimura Kurotaro dispatched a mining engineer Yamazaki Yuichi in Taisho 12 years and resumed, but local people and others opposed the hot springs because they were dying, the mine supervisory office also asked for cancellation. Because of the management difficulties of the Tokyo head office due to the Great Kanto Earthquake, we abandoned the operation. Yamazaki wanted to make use of the best of the view with a magnificent scenery, which led to the opening of the lacthenite in the Showa 4 year. The site has become nearly lactic.
