(Tomogashima)

Tomogashima

Tomogashima (Togashima) belongs to Kazuyoshi City Wakayama City Wakayama Prefecture, a group of uninhabited islands floating on the Kikuei Strait (Tomogashima Suido). In the Meiji Era, by the former Japanese Army, a boat was built in 5 locations in Okinoshima and Torajima for the purpose of preventing foreign fleet from entering Osaka bay. Until the Second World War, the entry of the general public was forbidden as a fortress area, and it was not mentioned in the topographic map (It is said that those entering Tōjima at Yamabushi Shurayu Shimayama were allowed to enter the islands specially ). Many parts of the boardwalk within the island have a large part of the road width because it was cut as a military road leading to a battery and the like. Later World War II became the subject of air fighting, and the ship built for the ship wrestled without being used. Since the end of the war the whole of Tomogashima was designated as the Seto Inland Sea National Park, the military facilities mark remains relatively good except for the 2nd battery which was blown off at the end of the war. The third battery may be used for movies, magazines, and other locations, and was selected as a civil engineering treasure in 2003 by the Japan Society of Civil Engineers.
