明延鉱山 (Akira Nobe Kōzan)

明延鉱山(あけのべこうざん)とは、兵庫県養父市大屋町でかつて操業していたスズ、銅、亜鉛、タングステンなどの多品種の非鉄金属鉱脈をもつ鉱山。特にスズは日本一の鉱量を誇っていた。神子畑銀山・加盛山鉱山とも呼ばれる。 明延鉱山は平安時代初期の大同年間に採掘開始といわれる。明治初年(1868年)、生野銀山とともに官営となり、明治29年(1896年)に三菱合資会社に払い下げられた。 生産量のピークは戦時中から昭和26年(1951年)頃で、プラザ合意後の急激な円高に伴う銅、亜鉛、スズの市況の下落により、大幅な赤字を計上することとなり、まだ採掘可能な鉱脈を残して、昭和62年(1987年)1月31日午後11時20分の発破を最後に、同年3月をもって閉山した。 明延鉱山跡には、選鉱所の建物や鉱山鉄道で使われていた踏切の警報機、レール等が、2006年に現認されている。 また、鉱山で使われていた鉄道車両(明神電車と蓄電池機関車、貨車等)や明延鉱山探検坑道は、養父市立あけのべ自然学校が管理している。 明神電車の一部の車両は、朝来市の「道の駅 あさご」にも、三両静態保存されている。
